Hello, our names are Clifford, Henry & Arthur.

Meet Our Gentle Trio!

These three handsome boys came to the Second Chance Program together as a surrender group. They are a father and his two sons, and while we don't know their exact ages, we estimate the father is around one year old, with his sons being approximately eight months old. From the moment they arrived, it was clear that these boys had experienced a loving home. All three are exceptionally calm, gentle, and well-natured, and they have adjusted beautifully to the busy environment here at Second Chance Program. From what we understand, the boys were originally selected from a feeder bin and were intended to be feeder rats. We're so happy they were given the chance to become companion animals instead; because they have absolutely shown us that they have wonderful pet personalities.

Clifford

The largest of the trio is their father, a big black-and-white rex with an equally big personality. He's an incredibly gentle and social boy who loves attention. He happily takes treats from your hand, enjoys being picked up and handled, and is always ready for pets and scratches. He frequently comes right up to the cage to say hello and seems genuinely interested in what the humans around him are doing. He's the kind of rat who makes it very easy to fall in love with him.

Henry

The all-white boy with red eyes is a little more reserved than his dad, but he's still a very sweet and trusting rat. He's not quite confident enough to take treats directly from your hand yet, but he'll happily accept them when they're placed near him. He's also not particularly enthusiastic about being picked up, although he doesn't panic or try desperately to escape. He is comfortable having people around him and is very receptive to gentle pets and scratches. We think he'll continue to gain confidence with a patient family who lets him build trust at his own pace.

Arthur

The second brother is a handsome blue-grey hooded boy with darker markings and spots along his back. He's friendly, easily handled, and very treat-motivated. He's comfortable interacting with people and has shown himself to be another very easygoing member of the trio.

All three boys have been wonderfully social with one another and have been doing very well in our care. They have also had positive interactions with some of our resident male rats. Their introductions have included the usual dramatic rat theatrics: standing up, wrestling, and waving their little hands at each other like they're preparing for a tiny boxing match... but we have not observed aggressive biting, persistent fighting, pinning, or concerning squeaking. Our resident males are our personal pets and are kept completely separate from our breeding program. We occasionally introduce them to surrendered rats as part of our normal household management and to observe temperament and social compatibility.

So far, these three have shown themselves to be very socially adaptable boys.

They also don't seem particularly bothered by the general chaos of our household. With dogs and cats moving around, people coming and going, and plenty of everyday household activity around them, they remain remarkably calm.

We think this trio would make a wonderful mischief of their own for someone looking to adopt three bonded adult boys. They could also potentially be a wonderful addition to an appropriately matched existing male mischief, provided introductions are done properly and gradually. They would likely do well in a family environment and seem particularly suited to someone who appreciates rats with gentle, easygoing personalities. Henry may benefit from a little extra patience while he builds confidence, but all three have shown us that they are kind, social boys who enjoy human interaction in their own ways.
